Mopar Parts STILL on BackOrder!!

Welcome back,

I just thought I’d take a moment to confirm that, YES There are still hundreds of Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep parts on back order.

I will try to explain the process as best as I can….

Let’s say for example that your 1999 Jeep Cherokee needs a new clockspring. You go to your local Dealer and they look up the part and tell you that it is in fact on a National Back Order. What a National Back Order means is that this particular part is not stocked in the Depots in the country (there are about 20 in the USA). In fact in many cases a part will show as a negative on hand because there are orders coming in the these depots and no product to fill them.

Now at this point the Dealer can check the locator and see if there are any dealerships that have this part in stock. Just because a Dealer shows this part, doesn’t mean they will sell it. As the part could be on hold for one of their customers, or the dealer knows it’s a back ordered part and may want to hang on to it to make the sale and a little profit.

In the case that the handful of Dealers that shows this part says they are not willing to sell it to your dealer, then your dealer could try placing the order through Chrysler. By doing so, the dealer could upgrade the order from a regular (daily) order to a Special Handle, or a Vehicle Off Road (VOR) if the vehicle is in fact not drivable. Just know that there is a fee to upgrade your part.

At this point Chrysler gets the order (keep in mind that there are probably close to 100 orders placed for this part already) and those Dealers who show having it will be asked again if they want to sell it. Again those dealers can decline. At this rate, if the clockspring is not upgraded from a Daily Order, it’s like waiting your turn at the deli, take a number and first come first serve.

Here is an example…. This particular part is for a 2007 Minivan with a 3.3 it’s the cooling fan module.

As you can see the Depots all show Zero or a negative quantity on hand. There are 267 orders for this part and only 149 parts amongst all of the dealers in the US. You’ll see that there are 189 orders placed for Stock, 49 orders placed on a Daily order, 11 orders upgraded to a Special Handle (these orders will have first priority over the Daily and Stock orders). There are no VOR orders, but if there were any these would take priority over all other orders and would get filled first.

You may have noticed the Supplier Ship Commitment shows no information at all…. Well that’s where a date and quantity would show, if there were a shipment coming in… But since there doesn’t seem to be one just yet, there isn’t an ETA for any of these orders. I know customers don’t want to hear that, but it is what it is. Once an order has been placed, we can go back in and check to see if there is an ETA, but that too is a hit or miss.

This is what goes on behind the scenes, hopefully I haven’t confused you too much.
