Welcome Back,
This is my Christmas Eve post... Currently I'm up in Canada with James
We made the 7 hour trip up yesterday so we could spend the holiday with his family.
We have made this trip before and the first time was a lot smoother than yesterday's little adventure. Getting on the Mass Pike was easy(I know that stretch of road fairly well) However, I got off 90W a few exits too early and we took a 15-20 minute scenic route through Albany... For some reason I was thinking I wanted 87 North (which would have worked as well) But our directions called for us taking 81North.
So we get back on track, no big deal... Once we get back on 90 West I thought it would be a good idea to pick up the pace a bit, ya know to sort of make up for lost time in Albany...Yeah, all was good until I caught a State trooper pulled to the side of the highway as I'm doing 90mph in a 65mph zone... Naturally I quickly apply the brake pedal and fly passed him.... Sure enough, here he comes.. I pull in the right lane and knew he was coming after me*sigh*
New York seems to work differently than Massachusetts as far as their traffic tickets go... Nowhere was it mentioned what the amount of the fine is...Unlike Mass where you know the amount you are expected to pay... Seems I have to fill out some info and mail it in by Jan 13,2009 and I guess a judge will determine the amount and I'll get a bill in the mail...
I'm pretty sure here (in Mass) 5 miles over the speed limit is acceptable and every mile over that is given a $ value... So I've been told by others. Apparently there is a space where I can fill in my "defense" .... in hopes that I'll get a smaller fee to pay...
My plan was to get all of the way up here Before it got dark... All was looking pretty good until we got to the Border...Not that it was super busy, There were 3 lanes for passenger vehicles and 1 for tractor trailers. Two of the 3 lines were moving right along... I pulled into the super slow lane. It took us almost 30 minutes just to get to the front of the line and another 10 to chit chat with the lady in the booth...It appeared as if the 5 cars in front of us all had been asked to pull into a bay for further investigation... I'm guessing it was due to importing presents with a value over $60 USD.... Just a wild guess since that's what we were asked... We were safe from the full cavity search since our gifts consisted of baked goods. Which by the way Jambon's grandparents are really enjoying
At the moment James is enjoying his Wii and the new games he downloaded with his wii points
We are still not 100% sure which day we will be leaving.. Although Friday does seem to be the better day for traveling...
Well, not much more to report at the moment... so until the next blog entry... Merry Christmas & Happy new Year!!
